Dynamic Presence of the Municipality of Thira at the ITB Berlin 2025 International Tourism Exhibition

The Municipality of Thira successfully participated in the ITB Berlin 2025 International Tourism Exhibition, held from March 4 to 6 in Berlin, with over 5,800 exhibitors representing more than 170 countries. Strengthening Santorini’s position on the global tourism map and attracting visitors and industry professionals, the Municipality of Thira had the opportunity to showcase the uniqueness of the island and highlight the characteristics that make it one of the most desirable destinations in the world.

Representing the Municipality of Thira at the international tourism exhibition in Berlin were the President of the Municipal Council and the Tourism Committee, Ms. Georgia Nomikou, the CEO of GEOTHIRA S.A., Mr. Emmanouil Kafieris, and Mr. Loukas Bellonias, who has represented the Municipality in numerous exhibitions in the past.

During the exhibition, the representatives of the Municipality of Thira held numerous meetings with tourism industry professionals. The objective of these meetings was to highlight the island’s unique natural and cultural resources.

As part of the exhibition, a meeting was held with the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), Mr. Andreas Fiorentino, and the Director of Tourism Promotion, Ms. Eleni Mitraki. The representatives of the Municipality addressed the issues concerning Santorini while also discussing cooperation prospects and the action framework.

On the second day of the exhibition, a gastronomic presentation was held at the GNTO pavilion featuring two regions and two islands: Thessaly, the Peloponnese, Santorini, and Karpathos. Journalists and exhibition visitors were invited to this presentation, where each area showcased three culinary proposals. The President of the Municipal Council, Ms. Nomikou, presented fava, tomato fritters, and Assyrtiko wine to the attending audience in English. This initiative was supported by the Santorini Cooperative Union - Santo Wines, which responded immediately to the Municipality’s request by providing wine and fava, significantly contributing to the promotion of local flavors.

The ITB Berlin International Tourism Exhibition is one of the most important global exhibitions, shaping trends and developments in the industry. This year’s exhibition focused on the theme "The Power of Transition Lives Here," highlighting the major transformations taking place in tourism and how they will shape its future.

The Municipality of Thira participated dynamically, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable tourism and presenting Santorini as an authentic and multifaceted destination that offers unique experiences.

Through its participation, the Municipality highlighted the island’s natural beauty, rich history, culture, and gastronomy, focusing on the authentic moments that every visitor can experience. The Municipality’s presence strengthened Santorini’s image as a top destination, opening new prospects for collaboration and growth in the global tourism industry.

The successful participation of the Municipality of Thira in ITB Berlin 2025 reflects its commitment to the continuous promotion of Santorini, contributing to the enhancement of the local economy, businesses, and workers.
